Pendle Sculptures

This August is the 400th anniversary of the Pendle witch trials in Lancashire. I've been asked by the performance artists Wrights and Sites to produce an edition of 400 sculptures for a project in Lancashire to commemorate the trials. The project is called "Signs and Wonders" and you can read more about it on the LancashireWitches400 site. Each of the sculptures I've made contains natural plant fibres from Faughs Quarry, near Pendle; some of the sculptures are made from fired clay, and some from wax; all are either legs or feet to link to the story.

A set of these feet are now on permanent display at the Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle, Cornwall. You can also follow the progress of the feet being buried around the world on this site.

Fantastic work Helen, great concepts and links to archaeology. I deposited the foot you kindly gave me in consecrated ground; it seemed rather appropriate. Thanks for letting me take part in this wonderful project.
